Jacket Guide
From sunshine to showers, to winter
down pours, we have you covered.
Stay dry. Stay comfortable.
Keep exploring.
Choosing the right waterproof jacket isn’t simply about keeping the rain out. Whether you’re heading into the mountains, walking local trails, cycling in unpredictable weather or spending long days outdoors, your jacket needs to manage rain, wind, heat and moisture while allowing you to move comfortably.
At Páramo, we take a different approach to waterproof protection. Our waterproof jackets use Nikwax® Analogy® technology, a directional fabric system designed not only to protect you from rain but to actively move moisture away from your body, helping you stay comfortable when conditions and your activity levels change.
How to choose a waterproof jacket
The best waterproof jacket for you depends on where you’re going, what you’re doing and the conditions you’re likely to encounter. Before choosing your jacket, consider six key things.
Waterproof protection
For exposed hills, persistent rain and long days outside, reliable waterproof protection should be one of your highest priorities.
For shorter walks, everyday outdoor use or occasional showers, you may prefer a lighter level of weather protection in exchange for greater freedom of movement or ventilation.
Páramo’s waterproof range includes different levels of performance, allowing you to match your jacket to the environments and activities you enjoy.
Breathability and moisture management
Rain isn’t the only thing that can make you wet. During hiking, cycling or other high-energy activities, perspiration and condensation can build up inside your clothing. This means a good waterproof jacket needs to manage moisture from both the outside and the inside.
Nikwax Analogy works differently from conventional waterproof membrane systems by actively moving liquid moisture away from your body as well as allowing moisture vapour to escape.
Your activity
Think about how hard you’ll be working. A fast mountain ascent or day of cycling creates very different demands from wildlife watching or a relaxed countryside walk.
For high-energy activities, prioritise:
- Effective moisture management
- Good ventilation
- Freedom of movement
- Lower bulk
For slower-paced or exposed activities, you may prefer:
- Increased weather protection
- Greater warmth
- Durability
- Additional storage and practical features
Wind protection
Wind can dramatically change how cold conditions feel, particularly on exposed hillsides and mountain ridges.
Choosing a jacket that provides effective protection from both rain and wind can make a significant difference when the weather changes unexpectedly.
Fit and layering
Your waterproof jacket should give you enough room to move freely and accommodate additional layers when temperatures drop.
Think about what you’ll normally wear underneath it. A jacket used throughout winter may need to accommodate a baselayer and additional insulation, while a jacket designed for faster activity may work better with a simpler layering system.
Durability
If you’re regularly carrying a rucksack, scrambling, working outdoors or spending long days in challenging environments, durability becomes particularly important.
Look beyond simply choosing the lightest waterproof jacket and consider how the garment will perform over many years of use.
Why are Páramo waterproof jackets different?
Traditional waterproof clothing commonly relies on a waterproof membrane.
Páramo’s Nikwax® Analogy® waterproof system instead combines a water- and wind-repellent outer fabric with a directional Pump Liner®.
Inspired by the way animal fur moves liquid water away from the skin, the system actively moves moisture outwards — whether that moisture comes from rain, perspiration or condensation. That makes Páramo particularly suited to environments where rain, humidity and changing activity levels all need to be managed.
Which Páramo waterproof
jacket is right for you?
There isn’t one perfect waterproof jacket for every adventure.
We’ve designed different jackets around different activities, environments and levels of protection.

Velez waterproof jacket
Best for: High-energy hiking, climbing, scrambling and cycling.
The Velez is designed around active outdoor use, combining waterproof protection with ventilation and freedom of movement. Páramo currently positions the jacket for activities including mountain walking, climbing and cycling.

Caminata waterproof jacket
Best for: Walking, trails and less extreme outdoor conditions.
For everyday walking, local trails and changeable conditions, a more versatile waterproof jacket can provide the balance of comfort, protection and ventilation you need without choosing a more technical mountain-focused garment.
The Caminata sits within Páramo’s Trail collection and offers a lighter level of waterproof protection than jackets such as the Alta III and Velez.

Waterproof jacket FAQs
Consider waterproof protection, moisture management, breathability, ventilation, wind protection, durability, fit and the type of activities you’ll be doing. A jacket for occasional countryside walking may have very different requirements from one designed for exposed mountain conditions.
